Garlic Mustard Weed Pulls

Garlic Mustard is an invasive alien plant species that grows in Millcreek Ravine replacing native vegetation. The Alberta Government has legislation in place where Garlic Mustard is listed as a prohibited noxious weed and as such it is our responsibility to eliminate it.

In 2011, the Edmonton Naturalization Group and the City of Edmonton jointly worked on an eradication program for Garlic Mustard and organized weed pulls in Millcreek throughout the summer. It is important to continue these pulls for several years to permanently eliminate this species in Mill Creek Ravine.

A lot of hands are needed to make this a successful program and to get Millcreek Ravine free of this dangerous weed.

We are currently setting up dates for weed pulls in 2012 and are looking for volunteers who care about the Millcreek Ravine to join us. The dates are as follows:

  • Saturday, May 26 (morning)
  • Tuesday, June 5 (evening)
  • Saturday, July 7 (morning)
  • Thursday, August 2 (evening)

We will be providing more information as it becomes available. If you would like further information on how you can be involved, please contact the Community Recreation Coordinator for Millcreek South, Susan Dack, at 780-496-1470 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
