DESCRIPTION:Discover the beauty\, precision\, and sophistication of this elegant artform! In this 2 evening workshop \, you will gain insight into the historical and cultural importance of Arabic calligraphy and develop your skills. Learn to form the 28 letters of Kufic Script properly and come away from the class with new skills and new appreciation of the ancient art of writing by hand\, not keyboard! One of the biggest challenges for Najm’s students is how to learn to write from right to left. Through well-honed teaching techniques and exercises\, Najm shows his students how to master this form of writing and in the process\, challenges them to a new way of creative thinking. Whether or not you are a calligrapher\, you will be intrigued by the new possibilities in mark making\, and your understanding of form and space will gain precision and depth. By the completion of your course\, you will be able to write your name in the Kufi script! \nAbout the Instructor: \n\nWelcome to the exquisite world of Arabic calligraphy! As we journey forth together in this course you will discover the beauty\,precision\, and sophistication of his elegant art form\, gain insight into its historical and cultural importance\,and develop your skills as you explore different script styles. \nWe will begin with correct preparation\, techniques and tools\, and go on to explore the Arabic alphabet by learning to write one script. You’ ll learn to form the 28 Arabic letters properly. You will come away from the class with new skills and a new appreciation of the ancient art of writing by hand\, not keyboard! Whether or not you are a calligrapher\, you’ll be intrigued by the new possibilities in mark making\,and your understanding of form and space will gain precision and depth. \nSuggested Supplies: \n\nSuitable art clothes\, hand towel/tea towel\, soft cloths for brushes\, notebook\, snack\, drink\, and your own PPE (mask\, hand sanitizer)\n\nWhen: Monday\, June 9th and 16th from 6:00-9:00 PM\nWhere: Artelier\, 10045 81 Ave NW\, Edmonton (back alley entrance)\nCost: $120 per person \nClass limit is 15 students. Any skill level – youth or adult is welcome. \nYou will receive a 20% discount on all art supplies from your registration until the end of the class!
