Consider starting off your evening at JUNOfest at Block 1912 presented by CBC Music with local singer-songwriters and some delicious treats! \nFeaturing: \nD’orjay The Singing Shaman\nArtist Sponsored by Duncan Craig LLP \nThis ain’t your grandaddy’s country music\, despite it paying homage to the classic country D’orjay The Singing Shaman grew up with in rural Alberta. And it sure as hell ain’t stadium girls-trucks-beer country. Instead\, she colours outside the lines with anthemic\, bold blues\, honky-tonk and rock-flavoured roots with a distinct queer\, Black twist. Her powerful warm voice guides orchestration featuring piano\, syncopated electric guitar\, paced banjo\, fiddle and steel guitar\, all with a healing self-reflection. \nKaeley Jade \nA vibrant presence with a voice like velvet\, folk-pop singer/songwriter Kaeley Jade weaves lush imagery and hooky melodic lines to craft music that is both poignant and playful. A Summer Solstice Indigenous Music Award nominee\, Kaeley has performed on stages across Canada including the Taste of Edmonton\, Tkaronto Music Festival and World Music Week. Reminiscent of artists like Maggie Rogers and The Lumineers\, her music has received radio play across North America\, has been added to major playlists across streaming giants\, and has been placed in several film and television productions. \nEvent Sponsored by\nLong & McQuade Musical Instruments

SUMMARY:Melanin Narratives VII
DESCRIPTION:The evening will feature live performances\, art displays\, and a buffet dinner. Not to mention that entry is FREE! \nEdmonton\, AB – Storytelling – Past\, Present\, Future. Like many crafts\, storytelling is an evolving practice. For African\, Black and Caribbean communities storytelling has taken shape in many forms. From oral traditions\, to music and dance the art of storytelling remains a pillar for our identities. Stories tell us about our history\, help us make sense of our present\, and give us hope for the future. \nTo capture the transforming essence of storytelling\, YEG TheComeUp will be hosting Melanin Narratives VII – a multi-media art showcase presenting the talent of local Black artists. The theme we will be exploring is storytelling – past\, present and future. Our goal is to shine a light on the power of stories to transcend time and space while also being told in new and innovative ways. Through our showcase\, artists of various disciplines will be given a platform to share their stories and their creative approach to telling them.
