SUMMARY:The Paint Spot Presents: A Cartoonist's Perspective with Gerry Rasmussen
DESCRIPTION:A one-day drawing workshop by internationally syndicated cartoonist and illustrator Gerry Rasmussen. We will explore drawing from the basics up.  Where do lines and gestures come from\, and how can we use drawing to think and imagine.  We’ll create our own new characters and then make them move and interact with each other while creating worlds for them.  Be prepared to make some mess as we will have a lot of fun with pencils\, pens\, ink\, brushes\, twigs\, and various other drawing tools.  No previous drawing experience necessary! \n  \nAbout the Instructor \nGerry Rasmussen is an internationally syndicated cartoonist who draws the daily comic strip\, Betty\, which appears in newspapers and magazines in seven countries. Before Betty\, they produced the full-colour comic page\, Bub Slug for The Edmonton Journal. Although most of Gerry’s work is ink on paper he is always experimenting with new ways to make images\, from drawing with twigs and sponges dipped in ink\, to painting with coloured ink on birch panels. Shelly will show you how to create beautiful upcycled tins for gift-giving\, cookies\, mementoes\, or art supply holders by applying paper to edges effortlessly and then cap them off with the tops and bottoms.  A great way to makes what’s old new again. \nAbout the Instructor:\nShelly is an award-winning coloured-pencil artist who also enjoys teaching indigo dyeing\, acrylic\, glass painting and how to make beeswax wraps. The instructor will show you an easy method to paint this popular subject\, that almost paints itself\, using wet-on-wet free-flowing technique. The workshop will be done in three steps – painting the Northern Lights\, distant cityscape and the snow filled hay bales in the foreground. You will also learn how to use masking fluid\, splattering and the use of some gouache. \nWe will use several photo references that you can choose to your liking. DESCRIPTION:Intro to Marbling – 4 Week Series with Cate Kuzik\nIn this workshop\, you’ll explore Ebru\, the ancient Turkish art of marbling. You’ll learn the preparation and equipment required\, some of the traditional marbling patterns\, and how to create them while discussing the various inks and paints used for each. Often described as “painting on water” Ebru is the traditional Turkish art of creating patterns by sprinkling and brushing pigments on the surface of a liquid and picking them up with paper or fabric\, creating uniquely colourful fluid art. \nAbout the Instructor:\nCate Kuzik or\, Ochre Lea is multidisciplinary studio with a love of colour\, traditional printmaking techniques and mechanical machinery.
