The Old Strathcona Business Association is proudly celebrating 30 years of . We aren’t the only ones to have been kicking it since 1993. In fact, there are over 30 businesses who are original founding members of our business improvement area. Most have been here even longer than us! Woven into the modern fabric of this iconic Edmonton neighbourhood, each of these restaurants’ unique identities contribute to Old Strathcona’s rich dining and social atmosphere.
The Next Act
The Next Act first opened its doors in 1992 and has been a staple pub of Old Strathcona ever since. Offering refined pub-style food with a large offering of craft beers to suit any taste. Their rotating feature ‘Cameo’ sandwich is a weekly “have you tried this yet?” conversation starter.
Dadeo
Dadeo is turning 30 years old this year. This New Orleans style diner been serving Jambalayas and other local favourites since 1993, and has maintained their classic dining experience since day 1.
Julio’s Barrio
Julio’s are also celebrating 30 years of business, bringing their Mexican flair to Whyte Ave. Their iconic bulldog cocktail makes this spot an energetic and delicious place to assemble the group chat.
Yianni’s Taverna
Next door, you’ll find Yiannis which has been open since 1990. If you’re in the mood for a classic Greek platter or some baklava then look no further than this spacious taverna.
Block 1912
Block 1912 has been the go-to late night café spot since it opened in 1992. If you are a cake lover then this is a must visit spot. Not to mention they have wonderful ice cream and drinks as well.
Royal Pizza
Royal Pizza has been living in Old Strathcona since 1969 and has since expanded to multiple locations across Edmonton and Calgary. They’ve been filling our hearts and stomachs with hearty ‘zas packed with toppings galore.
Continental Treat Fine Bistro
Continental Treat Fine Bistro have been in business since 1982 and are thriving with their brand new outdoor patio that opened this year. They sport a gluten-friendly menu and some satisfying treats for that post-meal sweet tooth.
Black Dog
Black Dog has been an icon of Edmontonian night life for 31 years. With 3 distinctive floors, great drinks, and Canada’s longest running free comedy show, there is something for everyone’s night out!
