The Old Strathcona Business Improvement Area (BIA) represents the interests of nearly 600 businesses in the Old Strathcona and Whyte Avenue district. We use tactics like beautification to improve the visual appeal of the district, foster a sense of place and community, and drive positive economic impact. Beautification efforts, like murals and painted crosswalks, enhance the area’s overall liveliness, resulting in a commercial district that is both attractive to patrons and economically viable for businesses.
If you are an artist looking for new opportunities to expand your portfolio and contribute to the vibrant public art scene in Old Strathcona, we want to hear from you! We’re seeking imaginative minds to transform bland walls with murals, jazz up traffic control boxes, and paint crosswalks with a burst of colour! We use public art in places like Spur Line Alley’s “Rainbow Road” (new concept coming soon!), Rado Alley, and Pride crosswalks to inspire a sense of place and to beautify our district.
If you’re an artist interested in painting a mural, or creating a design for a crosswalk, or traffic control box, please fill out the artist submission form below.
And psst, if you’re a business or property owner in the Old Strathcona BIA boundaries (map here), and you have a wall or surface that is begging for a little mural beautification, give us a shout. We’d love to connect with you and see how we can work together to make magic by bringing even more public art to our district!
We can’t wait to connect with you!
